HUG FOCUSES ON THE PROVISION OF FUNDING TO UK HOMEOWNERS FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS TO THEIR HOMES

The UK government has a few different Home Upgrade Schemes (HUGS) that provide grants and funding to homeowners for energy efficiency improvements to their homes. The two primary schemes are the Green Homes Grant and the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme.

The Green Homes Grant is a time-limited scheme that was launched in September 2020 and closed for new applications on 31 March 2021. The scheme provided vouchers to homeowners in England for up to two-thirds of the cost of energy efficiency improvements, up to a maximum of £5,000 per household, or up to £10,000 for low-income households. The vouchers could be used to pay for insulation, low-carbon heating, draught-proofing, and other energy-saving measures.

The ECO scheme, on the other hand, is an ongoing government scheme that requires energy companies to provide funding for energy efficiency improvements in homes. The scheme primarily targets low-income households and those living in fuel poverty, and provides funding for measures such as insulation, boiler upgrades, and heating system repairs.

To apply for the Green Homes Grant or the ECO scheme, you would need to contact a registered installer or supplier who is able to carry out the work you need. They would then be able to advise you on what funding may be available and how to apply. However, as the Green Homes Grant scheme is now closed, it is no longer possible to apply for vouchers under that scheme
