The Victoria Wharf project included the development of a brownfield site in the Grangetown area of Cardiff and consisted of 450 apartments on the water’s edge in Cardiff Bay.
Designed by Holder Mathias for Taylor Wimpey, SERS was appointed to install 12,000m2 of SPSenvirowall 100mm EPS TS Rail system with 1.5mm of silicone grain topcoat for the façade which was completed in 2008. Due to its exposed location, the client required exceptional design support and detailing, thus SPSenvirowall’s NHBC approved TS Rail system was specified. It is cost effective, installer friendly, and quick and easy to apply. Additionally, the thermal efficiency and u-value calculation was brought to a very acceptable 0.25 W/m2K.
Now a long-standing focal point for drivers and passers-by on the A4055, linking Cardiff Bay to Penarth, the development has weathered extremely well and stayed clean despite its position on the coast. Each apartment block was designed to maximize river views and with seven blocks with large soffits, each vein consists of a combination of render of a different colour of the rainbow with painted weatherboard and cedar cladding, makes it a very attractive and desirable residence 10 years on.
The BBA certified, build-friendly TS Rail system is perfectly suited for buildings over 18 meters or 6 storeys high whilst the silicone render is fit for purpose, delivering excellent weather performance and ensuring the building’s appearance will stay cleaner and brighter for longer which is demonstrated so well on the 10-year-old Victoria Wharf apartments.
The building has even withstood years of abuse by local seagulls. A true testament to SPSenvirowall silicone topcoat.
